Ivan Russell Buckman

Ivan Russell Buckman, 76 (November 29, 1930-April 18, 2007), of Marceline died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Boone Hospital, Columbia. Ivan was born November 29, 1930, in Kirksville, MO and was a resident of Linn County, MO. He was the son of Morgan Jasper and Clara Lee (Hisel) Buckman. He married Lois Evalyn Surber, April 15, 1951.

Funeral Services were held at 11am on Saturday, April 21, 2007 at Delaney Funeral Home in Marceline with Rev. Mike White officiating. Visitation began at 1pm on Friday, April 20, 2007 at the funeral home. The Masonic Service was at 5:30pm with the family receiving friends from 6 until 9pm. Burial with military honors was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Marceline. Pallbearers were Larry Smith, Jack White, Bill Crager, Dennis Fadler, Leroy Conrad, and Kenny Bailey.

Ivan graduated in 1948 from Meadville High School, attended Chillicothe Business College and worked at the Chillicothe State Bank from 1948 until 1952 when he entered the Army for two years. After service he returned to the bank in Chillicothe where later he was transferred to a bank in Dawn, MO and Rich Hill, MO before moving to Marceline in 1960 as cashier of Marceline State Bank. He remained with the local bank until 1978 when he and his wife purchased The Marceline Press, acquiring The Sho-Me Shopper and The Chariton Courier in 1980. The Marceline Press sold to American Publishing Company in 1988. Ivan continued to work with the newspaper until he fully retired December 2001.

Ivan was active in the community serving as school board member, Linn County Ambulance District Board, Marceline Jaycees, Marceline Fire Department, at the time of his death Commander of American Legion Post 264, active in Marceline Masonic Lodge #481, Stadium Club, Tri-County Shrine Club, Puddle Jumpers Bass Club, Tanglefoot Square Dance Club, and many other community volunteer activities. He was a member of the First Christian Church, Marceline.

Survivors include: wife Lois of Marceline; three daughters and two sons-in-law Pam and David Minor, Marceline; Brenda and Dan Neil, Marceline and Karen Evans, Brookfield; eight grandchildren, Aaron Minor and his wife Debbie, Marceline; Andy Minor and his wife Sarah, Lee’s Summit; Jennifer Minor and her fiancee, Matt Hieke, Canton and Alex Minor, Marceline; Matthew Neil and his wife Rachel Ann, Wichita, Kansas; Rachel Danae Neil, Bolivar; Katie Neil, Maryville and Jeremy Evans, Brookfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
