MARCELINE, Mo. – The Marceline Historical Society, a committee of the Marceline Carnegie Library, is pleased to announce the launch of the Marceline Digital Archives, a new online resource created to collect, catalog, preserve, and share the history of Marceline, Missouri for future generations.
The Marceline Digital Archives will serve as a growing collection of historic materials connected to the people, places, businesses, organizations, events, and stories that have shaped Marceline. By making these materials easier to access online, the project will help residents, researchers, families, students, and visitors explore Marceline’s history from anywhere.
The archive is intended to be an ongoing community effort. The Marceline Historical Society hopes to preserve not only well-known parts of Marceline’s story, but also the everyday memories, photographs, documents, and records that help tell a fuller picture of the community’s past.
Community members interested in Marceline history are encouraged to get involved. The Historical Society meets monthly on the fourth Monday of each month at 2pm at the Walsworth Community Center. Anyone with an interest in local history is welcome to attend.
The Historical Society is also seeking volunteers from Marceline who have basic technology skills and knowledge of Marceline and our history, who would be interested in becoming editors of the Digital Archive. Training will be provided. Volunteers will help identify, organize, and catalog materials so they can be preserved and shared through the archive.
Those interested in learning more can visit MarcelineHistory.org, stop by the Marceline Carnegie Library, or attend an upcoming Marceline Historical Society meeting.
The Marceline Digital Archives can be accessed by visiting MarcelineHistory.org and clicking the Collections menu item in the top navigation.
