Among the early settlers of Marceline and vicinity were Mr. and Mrs. Albert P. Swan. He came from Michigan and Mrs. Swan from the state of New York. They were married in Michigan in 1865 and resided there until 1869, and their first Estella was born there.

G. I. A.’s, as most sub-ordinate Divisions call themselves, is so called because they are wives of Locomotive Engineers. The proper name is Grand International Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Strangely enough, while Marceline is celebrating its Diamond Jubilee, so is the Grand International Auxiliary, which was organized October 16, 1887.
Although a relative newcomer to the Green Hills Area, Radio Station K G H M has been a part of the Marceline Community almost from the time it went on the air on February 14, 1956.

Peter Wright Sears was born on a farm near Bedford, Lawrence County, Indiana, October 2, 1846. On May 7, 1864, he enlisted in Company E. of the 136th Regiment of Indiana Volunteer Infantry. He remained with his company until the end of the war, when he was honorably discharged.

George J. Allen, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Philemon Allen, was born Febuary 2, 1865, at Brockport, N.Y. When he was a small boy, the family moved to Kansas where he grew to manhood. He was graduated from Ottowa University and shortly afterward the family moved to Marceline.
